Sustainable commitment to people & environment at Hotel Sentido Naga Bay

The Sentido Naga Bay has already been awarded a prestigious sustainability seal for this! The Green Star Hotel Seal is an Egyptian sustainability certificate for hotels that that recognizes environmentally friendly management, resource conservation, and social responsibility. It was developed in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and operates under the guidelines of the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council), promoting sustainable tourism through clear environmental and social standards. Hotels with this seal commit themselves to continuously improving their ecological and social performance.

The Sentido Naga Bay Hotel stands for sustainable and responsible behaviour. The management protects the environment and culture, ensures fair working conditions and supports the local community to guarantee equal opportunities, secure jobs and fair wages. It also operates an energy-efficient, sustainable hotel management system, which aims to save energy and water, separate waste, use recycled wastewater for garden irrigation and regularly monitor environmental indicators.

Hotel guests are informed about ecological measures and instructed to behave respectfully towards nature and culture. Excursions are offered exclusively with authorised local providers in order to preserve the environment and local values. The hotel also supports regional products, initiatives and community projects. In this way, the Sentido Naga Bay Hotel combines relaxation, sustainability and social responsibility to create a conscious holiday experience on the Red Sea.

Marine Conservation & Diving

Naga Bay is home to some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the region, making it an ideal destination for diving enthusiasts. We are proud to operate a fully equipped diving centre that offers our guests the opportunity to explore the underwater world in a responsible manner.

As part of our commitment to marine conservation, we organise monthly beach clean-ups in which both staff and guests participate to raise awareness and help keep our coastline clean.

We are proud to work with the DERTOUR Foundation and the Omar Ibn El Khattab Society Organisation, which, through various initiatives, empowers the community in the Red Sea area, especially widows and single mothers, and actively promotes women's empowerment. The focus is on promoting women and their social integration – putting women at the centre and offering them the opportunity to earn their own living. While tourism provides a livelihood for many local men and families, single or widowed women in Egypt have a much harder time. Our goal is to improve their skills in the areas of the environment and handicrafts, thereby strengthening cultural, social and national values.

Our ongoing project, such as the sewing workshop in Safaga, where women transform simple fabrics into beautiful products, with every stitch a testament to their hard work and dreams, is proof of this vision. Currently, 18 women produce handmade items there, including the cute Green Buddie door hangers that guests find in Aldiana and Sentido hotels. These charming souvenirs, shaped like fish, symbolise hope, economic opportunity and dignity for the women who make them. Every purchase supports the workshop and promotes sustainable practices among guests. These women are not only workers, but also creators who learn new techniques and expand their skills under the guidance of experienced trainers. Through training, they acquire the knowledge to be innovative and stand on their own two feet.

Energy efficiency initiatives

- Adjustment of the speed settings of the air conditioning fans in the guest rooms to optimise energy consumption.

- Installation of window sensors that automatically switch off the air conditioning when windows are open.

- Replacement of all conventional lighting fixtures with energy-efficient LED lights.

 

Water conservation

- Installation of water-saving devices on all taps and shower heads to reduce water consumption. Water consumption from all taps in guest rooms and public sanitary facilities is less than 4 litres/minute.

- Greywater treatment system in operation – recycled water is used for garden irrigation.

 

Waste reduction

- Introduction of Brita water filter systems to avoid the use of plastic water bottles.

- Replacement of individual guest items with refillable dispensers to minimise plastic waste.
